ONLINE SCREENING INSTRUCTIONS
A benefit of PAL membership is to show your artwork in our Member Shows in the Spring, in July during the Summer Art Festival, and in the Fall. Show dates and details are announced in PAL’s newsletter, The Palette. To participate in a Member Show, membership dues must be current, the artwork may not have been entered in a previous Member Show, and the artist must have previously screened in the medium of the artwork to be submitted.
SCREENING DEADLINES: January 31, April 30, September 30, November 30
You will be notified by email of your screening results within two to three weeks of submission. If you wish to enter a particular member show, please allow sufficient time for screening. The Screening Committee uses a numbered scoring system to evaluate each artwork based on technique, composition, originality, and interest. Mediums for screening include (but are not limited to):
Alcohol Ink | Book Art | Ceramics Not pre-molded | Collage | Digital Media Components and photographs must be original work of artist |
Drawing
| Fiber/Textiles | Glass | Jewelry Original work of artist | Mixed Media |
Mosaic | Painting
| Pastel | Photography | Printmaking |
Sculpture | Woodworking |
SUBMIT your on-line application with attached jpegs. Submit a separate application with attached jpegs for each medium you wish to have screened. Your application should INCLUDE:
1.Three examples of the medium being screened (e.g. three oil paintings). If a medium is not listed above, include a description of your process. For 3D work, please send a photo of the front and back of the work. Save each photo as a jpeg (.jpg) and name it as follows: “Your Last Name_Name of Artwork”.
2. An Artist Statement briefly describing your work (size, date, medium), process (tools/materials used), special meaning and/or motivation/inspiration. Separate from the title of the work and medium, an artist statement should describe what you create and why you create it. It’s a stand-in for you, the artist, speaking with someone about your work in a way that adds to their experience of viewing that work.
3. Work to be screened must have been completed within the past three years.
4. Submission Photos: Make sure your photos are in focus, high quality, and properly lit. Photos must be cropped to display artwork only (no frame). Works on paper should NOT be photographed behind glass. If a photo is larger than 4 MB, please resize. 1920 pixels on the longest side is recommended. PCs and Macs have built-in software for resizing. Free programs such as picresize.com or pixlr.com may help you to crop, resize, and edit your photos.
Note: All PAL shows require 2D work to be properly framed with D-rings (no saw-tooth hangers). Gallery-wrapped canvases are accepted without a frame with clean or painted edges.
