PAL Member Scholarships

Volunteers hours amount to scholarship dollars

From the beginning, the Peninsula Art League has supported learning for all of the organization’s members. As a result, PAL Scholarships are available to those who have been a PAL member in good standing for one year or more at the time of application and who have been actively volunteering for PAL during that time.

How do you qualify for a PAL Member Scholarship?
To qualify a member must be current on their PAL dues and have volunteered for the PAL Board, PAL committees, or at one or more of the many PAL events. The PAL Board recently approved a revision of the scholarship benefits that allows PAL members to qualify for scholarships at a variety of engagement levels for their volunteer service:

  • If you volunteer between 4-9 hours over the calendar year, you are eligible for a $40 scholarship.
  • Those that volunteer between 10-19 hours over the calendar year are eligible for a $100 scholarship.
  • For those who volunteer 20+ hours over the calendar year are eligible for a $200 scholarship.
  • Members keep track of their own volunteer hours and notate their volunteer hours in their application.
  • Members can reapply for Member Scholarships every year, as long as they have fulfilled one of those tier levels for volunteering during the previous 12 months.
  • Scholarships are no longer carried over to subsequent years (i.e., if unused in a particular year, the hours do not accumulate).

What Volunteer Opportunities are available to PAL Members?

There are a variety of opportunities throughout the year:

  • Help with Marketing, Scholarship, Member Shows, Summer Art Festival, National Fine Art Show, PenMet Art in the Park Shows.
  • Offer to set-up for Monthly Meetings, Programs, and Workshops.
  • Work a few hours in PAL Booths at: Summer Art Festival, Open Studio Tour, Chalk the Harbor and other events.

When can the application be submitted?
Scholarship applications can be submitted up to 6 months after the workshop has been taken. However, if a member needs the scholarship award to pay before the workshop, then the application must be received in a timely manner prior to the event.

What can the scholarship be used for?
The scholarship can only be used for art workshops and the materials related to the workshop. The workshop does not need to be a PAL-sponsored workshop, it can be one of your choosing.

Where is the application?
Visit the PAL Member Scholarship Application form or launch it from the link in the left column of the PAL Resources page.
** Please note, you must be logged in as a member to the website to see the application. The login link is in the upper right corner of all the PAL website pages!

2025 Student Scholarship Winners

$16,000 awarded to local high school Seniors

One of Peninsula Art League’s biggest yearly outreach programs is awarding college scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan on majoring in and pursuing a career path in one of the many facets of art. In addition to demonstrating skills in creating their artwork, the selected students must demonstrate good overall grades while actively participating as a volunteer in their school and community.

This year we awarded a total of $16,000 in college scholarships, thanks to the hard work of PAL members like you who volunteer in our various committees which helps PAL to run the activities needed to raise funds for our outreach programs.

We are pleased to announce that four deserving high school students have been awarded PAL college art scholarships and all of them are outstanding examples of hardworking students who we anticipate will do well in college and beyond.

The first scholarship is to Annabelle Maben, from Gig Harbor High School. Her academic goal is Theater Set Design and she has a very strong background in that already. Annabelle was the student head of the Performing Arts Department at GHHS, as well as being a youth counselor in the GHHS Summer Youth Theater program. She is undecided between Western Washington University and PLU.

The second scholarship is to Jeremy Gay, from South Kitsap High School. His academic goal is 3D Digital Animation and he also already has a strong foundation in this field through his leadership of the 3D Worlds and Interactive Technologies Club (which won 3rd place this year in the state competition for 3D art.) He will be attending DigiPen Institute of Technology.

The third scholarship is to Josianah Cockayne, from Gig Harbor High School. Her academic goal is Art Education, and she eventually wants to teach art. She will be attending Western Washington University.

The fourth scholarship is to Emma Metters, from Gig Harbor High School. Her academic goal is 2D Digital Illustration, with the goal of eventually writing Graphic Novels. She will also be attending Western Washington University.
