Bringing Community to the Artist and Art to the Community

Mixed Media with Janice Tayler

April 12, 2025

In this mixed media workshop, artists will learn to create multi-layered, textured artwork using a variety of materials, including, but not limited to, paper, newspaper, twine, sand, earth, photographs, found objects, acrylic paints, mediums, colored pencils, and charcoal. Participants will explore techniques for concealing and revealing hidden imagery and text to craft a personal narrative, while also adding texture through the use of matte medium compound and gesso.

This workshop encourages artists to harness mixed media as a powerful tool for self-expression. The morning session will feature a brief history of mixed media and collage, highlighting examples from contemporary and modern artists. Demonstrations of various techniques will be provided, along with thematic prompts to inspire creativity and guide the development of initial drafts. Students will be encouraged to use their imagination and push the boundaries of their creativity.

The afternoon session will be dedicated to refining and completing the final artwork, culminating in a group critique that fosters constructive feedback and shared learning.

A list of supplies and materials needed will be shared two weeks prior to the workshop -- as well as the Instructor providing a a list of project ideas.

A minimum of 5 students is required to run the workshop; refunds if cancelled.

There will be a lunch break from Noon to 12:30 pm. Please bring your own lunch!

Ages 18+ ONLY.
