Bringing Community to the Artist and Art to the Community

Watercolor Skills with Beth Owen

February 24, 2024

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Watercolorist Beth Owen will demonstrate and guide you through the process of creating a watercolor painting of a single flower. Through demonstration and the hands-on watercolor session, you will learn the fundamental watercolor techniques of negative painting, glazing, and mingling.

TAKEAWAY TECHNIQUES:

Negative Painting: Discover how to master negative painting by learning two different techniques (masking fluid on some areas, painting carefully around other areas).

Glazing: Learn to successfully apply multiple layers of paint by painting a new shape over the top of the previous color.

Mingling: Explore the blending of two or more colors on the paper and creating a smooth transition between the two. Beth will demonstrate ways to achieve this effect, such as wet-on-wet and organic mingling.

A list of supplies and materials needed will be provided at registration. This workshopis open to all experience levels. Ages 18+

Volunteer Vern Pavilion at Sehmel Homestead Park

A Summer Art Festival Exclusive

Our Summer Members’ Show promises to be a seasonal celebration of the unmatched creativity of a vibrant mix of artists working in a wide range of mediums who make up the Peninsula Art League. Exhibited inside the Volunteer Vern Pavilion, this dedicated Member Show will be a major highlight of the 40th Summer Art Festival, showcasing our Members’ indoor exhibition in addition to 100+ regional community booth artists.

This year our juror is Christine Buchanan, a renowned Gig Harbor sculptor and Fine Arts Department Chair at Peninsula High School. Christine’s unique perspective is deeply rooted in visual storytelling and a profound connection to the natural world.

Here is a chance to step inside the pavilion to discover a beautifully curated collection that represents the heart and soul of our league.

Our juror will be awarding Best of Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place and three Honorable Mention winners.

Summer Art Fair attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite for the People’s Choice Awards.
