I was lucky enough to know that I wanted to be an artist early on and to have good Art training at Bishop Montgomery High School plus a scholarship to Saturday drawing classes at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. I took advantage of 2 1/2 years of free education at El Camino College where she took every art and photography class imaginable. I earned a full ride scholarship to Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA- but opted to go for Fine Arts/Art Ed at Western WA State University in Bellingham WA which culminated with Art/Art Ed Degree and status as Art Specialist K-12. My involvement with Pastels came around 2000 and once she retired in 2008 from Macy's, and focused mostly on Pastels. Pastels are my favorite medium- it's pure pigment on the paper! I have been in many International Shows and won awards, had 4 solo shows (plus a joint show with my husband) and been part of the Gig Harbor Studio tour.

Volunteer Vern Pavilion at Sehmel Homestead Park

A Summer Art Festival Exclusive

Our Summer Members’ Show promises to be a seasonal celebration of the unmatched creativity of a vibrant mix of artists working in a wide range of mediums who make up the Peninsula Art League. Exhibited inside the Volunteer Vern Pavilion, this dedicated Member Show will be a major highlight of the 40th Summer Art Festival, showcasing our Members’ indoor exhibition in addition to 100+ regional community booth artists.

This year our juror is Christine Buchanan, a renowned Gig Harbor sculptor and Fine Arts Department Chair at Peninsula High School. Christine’s unique perspective is deeply rooted in visual storytelling and a profound connection to the natural world.

Here is a chance to step inside the pavilion to discover a beautifully curated collection that represents the heart and soul of our league.
